Giant Molecular Cloud
- A large cloud of gas in interstellar space. This gas is more concentrated than in other gas clouds and is combining into molecules. Stars and planets are formed when a Giant Molecular Cloud collapses and coalesces. These clouds may have a diameter that is tens of parsecs across, and a mass of 105 solar masses. Also called GMC.
